CCRW Student Organizer, Ghita, worked with Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary and student volunteers to collect 13 bags of roadside trash weighing 104 pounds total. This was largely made up of lightweight items like plastic film, food wrappers, styrofoam, and cigarette butts along the Beaufort Bypass.
“As a county that depends on our coast for tourism and recreation and also has a large fishing population, we are directly affected by the health of our environment. I hope that this cleanup encourages community members to take part in future local conservation initiatives.” Says Ghita.
Next steps, Ghita and CCRW will talk with community leaders about further advocacy. This is part of an environmental scholarship program in partnership with Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary.
